The Christian Life

  Lesson 1.

Changed by Obedience

Now that you have been baptized (immersed) into Christ, you are changed! Your life has been changed; your reasons for living have changed. Your relationship with God and man has changed.

“Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.” II Corinthians 5:17

What are you, now that you have been baptized (immersed) into Christ? You are a child of God. When you believed in Christ, and were baptized (immersed) into Christ, you became a Christian, which means you belong to Christ, and you can wear His name. Christ is the way to God. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh to the Father, but by me.”

 Read: John 14:6

As a Christian, you have entered into Christ Who is the way to God. Because you are in Christ, you are a part of Christ’s body, which is the church. God “put all things in subjection under His (Christ’s) feet, and gave him to be head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.” Ephesians 1:22-23

The church is God’s house, or God’s family. Paul wrote to the preacher Timothy that he might “know how men ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth” I Timothy 3:15

The Church is made up of people who have obeyed Jesus, and they belong to Jesus. They also belong to God.

You became a child of God through obedience to the gospel of Christ, which is God’s power to save. The apostle Paul wrote:

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel: for it is the power of God unto Salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the greek.”  Romans 1:16

 Read: John 3:16 , John 3:36

You have confessed Jesus Christ to be the Son of God.

 Read: Romans 10:8-10 , Romans 6:3-6, Acts 2:41-42

You have believed, repented, you have been baptized (immersed), and you have been added to the church.

As a child of God, you now have you Father in heaven; you have Christ as your Lord and Saviour; He is our big brother, because both you have the same father, and all the children of God in the family, the church, are your brothers and sisters.

Children of God do not think, talk, act or live like other people in the world. Those people do not follow Christ. You are no longer like them. You are a Child of God; you are a Christian. Christians are different from people in the world who live in sin.
