The Christian Life Lesson 3. Worship Now that I am child of God – a Christian – a member of Christ’s church, I need to know the will of my Father in heaven so I can do that will Read: Matthew 7:21 I learn the will of God from the Bible, my Father’s Book, which is given to guide His children in the right way. As a child of God, I need to know about the church of Christ, because I was added to the church when I obeyed the gospel. The Bible says: “And the Lord added to them day by day those that were saved.” (Acts 2:47) Read: John 4:23-24 What is worship? It is really an attitude of mind, heart, and means to show respect for, admiration, and love toward, and reverence for, my Father in heaven. This worship is expressed through outward exercises, as the New Testament teaches us, which makes known my respect for and my love toward God our Father. The ways through which I express worship to God are found in the New Testament, and they are singing, praying, teaching, taking the Lord’s Supper (Communion) and giving (Contribution). SINGING: Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God. Colossians 3:16 Read: Ephesians 5:19 1 Corinthians 14:15 PRAYING: The early Christians prayed as they met together for worship. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers. Acts 2:42 Read: 1 Timothy 2:14 TEACHING, READING GOD’S WORD: And upon the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul discoursed with them, intending to depart on the morrow; and prolonged his speech until midnight. Acts 20:7 TAKING THE LORD’S SUPPER (Communion): And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers. Acts 2:42 Read: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 GIVING (Contribution): Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I gave order to the churches of Galatia, so also do ye. Upon the first day of the week let each one of you lay by him in store, as he may prosper, that no collections be made when I come. 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Read: 2 Corinthians 9:7 As a child of God, as a Christian, as a member of the church, I have the privilege of worshipping God. According to the books of Acts, the church met (assembled) on the first day of the week (Sunday) to engage in the worship of God. Read: Acts 20:7 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 Hebrews 10:24-25 As God’s children we must not miss the times for meeting (assembly). Every child of God who is physically able should attend the assembly of the church in order to worship God. |
