Lesson 11.

What Doth the Lord require of Thee?

In Reference to Continuing to the End

One cannot read the Bible carefully without coming to the inevitable conclusion that an end will come to all things in this life. Hebrew 9:27

Because of this inescapable fact, some good advice comes to the Christian from the Old Testament concerning the end of all things earthly, and consequent judgment. Daniel 12:12-13 (Don’t miss the practical lessons by wrestling over the 1,335 days mentioned.) Time is often used figuratively in the Bible. II Peter 3:8 There is an emphasis in the passage for God’s people to “continue to the end.”

I.    Going to the End is a Personal Commandment.

A.   Each individual must continue to the end. Revelations 2:10

B.   Christ emphasized the responsibility of the individual.         John 4:5-30 (Summarized the case of the woman at Jacob’s well in Samaria.) Also Read John 21:22 and see how Christ placed individual responsibility upon Peter.

C.   Paul speaks of judgment on an individual basis.              Romans 14:11-12; II Corinthians 5:10

II.   Sometimes Man Tried to Flee God Rather Than Face the End.

A.   Jonah tried to flee God. Jonah 1:3 The Prodigal tried to flee his father (who in the parable represents God). Luke 15:11-24

B.   It is impossible to flee God. Jonah 2:1-2; Psalm 139:7-10

III.  The Christian Should Ask: “Where Do I Stand with God?”

A.   Are you faithful? Psalm 26:2

1.This includes all phases of one’s Christian life. II Corinthians 13:5

                                a. Attendance.

                                b. Giving. c. Service.

                                d. Evangelism.

                                e. Other Areas.

IV.  God Wills for His Children Eternal Happiness.

A.   God wants all men to be saved. II Peter 3:9

B.   Along the way the body grows old, but this becomes a real blessing in reality. I Corinthians 15:50-58

C.   The end that one continues toward is not the end of the worker. I t is rather the end of work. II Timonthy4:6-8  Note: Paul didn’t say: “I am finished’ – rather “ the course had been finished.

As a Christian, continue toward the end, counting the cost along the way. Luke 14:26-32 Another emphatic lesson from Luke is that of not being one to look back after starting on the pathway of services to Christ. Continue to the successful end. Luke 9:62
