Lesson 9.

What Doth the Lord require of Thee?

In Reference to Evangelizing the World

Christians are given the privilege of worshipping by their Father, God. In addition to this, many other blessings come from Him to His children daily. Along with these wonderful blessing, there are responsibilities. One such responsibility is that of carrying the message of salvation to the lost.

I.  Christ Gave the Command to Go!

A.   The Great Commission – Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-16; Luke 24:46-50

B.   The field is the whole wide world.

1.     Acts 1:8 – gives a breakdown of the field. (1) Jerusalem – this could well represent home and the area immediately surrounding home. (2) Judea – this could be those areas some miles from home, but not without easy reach. (3) Samaria – this could be those places several hundred miles away, but still within our own borders. (4) Uttermost part of the earth – this could well represent any foreign country.

II.  It is Possible to Carry Out the Commission

A.   God never demands or command the impossible from man. This is evident by the facts of the first century preachers. The command was: “go into all the world.” Mark 16:15 The command was carried out in the first century. Colossians 1:23

1.     Are we to argue that they were better equipped than we are vast methods of communications and transportation? This compensates for the fact of the much larger population of today. Couple this with the fact there are over two million members today of the church to carry out the commission, while during Paul’s day there were only a few thousand.

B.   God helps us to accomplish the work before us. Colossians 1:10-12; II Timothy 4:17

III.  What Are Some Things That Can Hold Us Back from Evangelizing the World

A.   Unconcern for the lost. How can anyone be unconcerned when they read of the terrible plight of the lost. Matthew 25:30; Matthew 13:42

B.   Doubt. This would be failure to understand that the task can be done. The gospel is the power of God. Romans 1:16 Carefully read I Corinthians 6:9-11 and see how powerful it was in life of the Corinthians.

C.   Fear. This would be the failure to see our potential. We should ask ourselves the question: “What are we afraid of?” Let us carefully read II Timothy 1:7 and Matthew 28:20. Fear can often be unbelief parading in disguise. John 20:27 We have the numbers – two million plus. We have the financial resources. It the two million would give just $2.00 per week this would be $208,000,000,000.00 year given to the Lord. Fantastic! Think this could do in evangelizing the world!

We all need to start evangelizing the world; today. Are you doing your part? Today is the time to begin. Go next door and invite your neighbor to the service of the church.
